EPS files don't have to be installed. They are just resources you open and copy and paste in your work file. I hope that helps.
From what I can see after 2 minutes of googling, Gimp should support EPS, but maybe not right out of the box. A bit of tinkering and plugin hunting might be necessary.

One problem, however. I have GIMP, not Photoshop. Can you direct me to a place that may tell me how to install an .eps into GIMP? Thank you!
